TestGorilla vs. Sprockets

Don’t leave hiring the best talent to chance

Pre-employment screening tools help hiring managers and recruiters accurately assess a candidate’s skills and personality traits, instead of just focusing on their resume.

They make it easy to find the best fit for your open roles based on job-related skills, culture add, critical thinking ability, and other soft and hard skills. This removes bias during the hiring process.

This article compares two leading pre-employment screening platforms, TestGorilla and Sprockets, so you can choose the right one for your hiring needs.

How does TestGorilla work?

TestGorilla's new homepage

TestGorilla is a pre-employment screening platform with more than 400+ expertly crafted tests to evaluate job-specific skills, personality traits, language proficiency, and much more.

You can create a custom assessment by mixing and matching up to five tests, or use one of our ready-made assessments. You can add custom questions to every assessment, too.

TestGorilla automatically scores assessments and ranks candidates by score, and you can add a weighting to each test to ensure the most important ones count more. This makes it easy to identify top-performing talent. Plus, you can download candidate assessment reports in CSV, Excel, or PDF format for easy sharing with your hiring team.

What’s more, TestGorilla is always adding new features and functionalities to improve user experience. We’ve recently added the ability to perform bulk candidate actions, saving you time in your hiring process. You can also customize any assessments with your brand and logo, include custom intro or outro videos, and have candidates record one-way video answers to test questions.

How does Sprockets work?

Sprockets homepage screenshot

Sprockets is a pre-employment screening tool for hiring hourly employees. It uses an applicant matching system focused on finding candidates that match the personality traits of your current employees. Sprockets has a bank of 50+ personality traits and characteristics against which to measure candidate responses.

Instead of taking skills tests, candidates answer a three-question survey. Sprockets’s AI algorithm then analyzes these responses compared to the personality traits of your team’s top performers, who will have taken the same survey.

Only top candidates are shown to the hiring manager, who makes the final decision on who to hire. Managers can contact applicants without needing to log into the system.

Sprockets also offers free posting on job boards, background checks, tools to engage new and past candidates, and integrations with other hiring systems.

TestGorilla vs. Sprockets: Test libraries

TestGorilla’s test library

TestGorilla has a comprehensive library of 400+ tests, separated into eight categories:

  • Personality and culture

  • Role-specific skills

  • Situational judgment

  • Cognitive ability

  • Programming skills

  • Software skills

  • Language

  • Typing speed

We’re constantly adding new tests, the Working with Generative AI, Branding Strategy, HIPAA, and Data Wrangling tests being among the most recent. We have also changed the types of questions available to candidates. For example, we now offer one-way video questions, the ability to upload files, text-based answers, and the ability to complete coding tasks.

Our platform also has localized websites and assessments in 12 languages, including Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Dutch – ideal for international hiring needs.

Sprockets’s test library

Sprockets’s tests are focused solely on assessing candidates’ personality traits.

The platform uses AI and psycholinguistics research to analyze the natural language of your top-performing employees. Employees answer three questions:

  • If you could vacation anywhere next summer, where would it be and why?

  • Describe the best day of your life.

  • What are your short- and long-term goals?

Each answer must be a minimum of 120 words. Sprockets’s algorithm then creates a Success Profile based on candidates’ answers.

When candidates apply for a job, they take the same survey. Sprockets assesses their answers against the Success Profile and gives them a score from 1 to 10, indicating how closely their personality traits match those of your best employees.

Sprockets also generates a candidate report for each test-taker.

While these tools are helpful, Sprockets doesn’t offer objective tests to evaluate a candidate’s skills for a position.

TestGorilla vs. Sprockets: Reporting and analytics

Reporting and analytics tools help recruiters and managers delve into candidates’ answers to better understand each applicant.

The best pre-employment testing tools offer automated candidate ranking, an overview of applicants, and shareable reports.

TestGorilla generates a detailed scoring report for each candidate, but you can also get reports for individual tests and questions, making it easier to compare candidates on a granular level. You can also get a comprehensive overview of all current and past candidates, plus view percentile scores to help you easily identify top performers.

You can assign custom weighting to each test or question so that the most important tests for the job count more in the final score. Plus, the reports enable you to compare candidates according to their strengths and weaknesses in a particular area.

These reports are easy to understand and can be downloaded and shared in CSV, Excel, or PDF formats. You can also export them directly to your ATS for streamlined hiring.

Hiring teams can also leave notes and ratings for every report, streamlining communication and encouraging collaborative decision-making.

Sprockets candidate reports include a personality assessment that outlines the applicant’s needs, values, and characteristics.

It shows their Sprockets score and how they compare to the Success Profile. You also get an organizational comparison showing how they stack up against other Success Profiles.

Reports are available on a dashboard and as a PDF download. The dashboard also shows key metrics related to your hiring process.

Sprockets works as an all-in-one ATS system, meaning there’s no need to pay for separate software. Simply track applicants, match, hire, and retain. Plus, the system is 100% Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) compliant and bias-free.

However, you can’t add ratings for candidates or share notes with other members of the hiring team, which makes collaboration more difficult.
