3 Jira automations to boost the delivery quality of your team featured image

A few quarters ago, the software development team I manage inherited a new project.  This project was an initiative to build a new product within the company, so high velocity and fast iterations were important. However, at TestGorilla, we don't see quality and velocity as competing attributes of a team; we take quality very seriously. To tackle the bug backlog while maintaining our standards, I decided to leverage Jira's automations. I use this feature extensively in my daily workflows, for eve

3 Jira automations to boost the delivery quality of your team

A global software development team spread across multiple countries (and time zones) is presented with unique challenges, especially when adapting Scrum. This post presents what didn't work for us in our journey, with the goal of helping your team go through these complexities and be more efficient.

Scrum for global teams: What doesn't work?

Applying Scrum efficiency in a highly distributed team is challenging and requires creativity. A lot of the standard recommendations have to be bent to set this new team configuration up for success.  If you haven't read it already, do check out the first part of this 2-part blog post, where I talked about the failed experiments to adapt Scrum to my global team. In this post, I will talk about the 3 things that worked well for us. I hope they can also help boost the efficiency of your team.

Scrum for global teams: What works?

I remember the day I applied for my job at TestGorilla. It was nearly 4 years ago – I took a skills assessment, got shortlisted, completed a work assignment, and was then invited to interview. Not once did the team question whether I was who I said I was. When we surveyed job seekers this year, 17% of them admitted to cheating on a skills test. Not a huge percentage, but it happens. The rise of remote work has opened up incredible global opportunities, but it’s also brought a challenge that keep

At TestGorilla, our goal has always been clear: to help companies discover the best talent by focusing on skills, not just resumes. We’re driven by the belief that a fair and just hiring process leads to stronger, more diverse, and more successful teams. Today, we’re taking that mission a giant leap forward. The traditional hiring funnel is broken. Our signal-to-noise ratio is off. Thanks to "Easy Apply" buttons and job aggregators, a single job posting can attract hundreds of applicants instantly. So we have an abundance of applications, but a scarcity of two critical resources: recruiter time and qualified talent.  Our recruitment practices are failing job seekers and employers everywhere. Blog thumbnail Why Holistic Recruitment Beats Cheating Detection

Skills-based assessments can surface the most qualified candidates for the job, without human bias getting in the way. But what if you're unsure whether applicants use external help – are assessment results still valid?  These concerns are important, but that doesn’t mean talent assessment platforms' anti-cheating measures should take center stage. After all, overly intrusive anti-cheating measures can create unnecessary friction for your applicants, ultimately harming your hiring process. Meanw

Online talent assessments are now front-and-center in recruitment – and rightfully so. They’re quick, objective, and give accurate insights into candidates’ real-life skills and abilities.  But with the swift rise of generative AI, screen sharing, VPNS, and more, it’s getting easier for candidates to find new, sneaky ways to beat the system. Many online assessment providers promise cheating-proof results and other unrealistic claims that just don’t hold up, leaving employers disappointed.  Below

Emma closed her laptop, feeling drained. Another afternoon spent manually sorting resumes and arranging interviews. Right now, TestGorilla has made evaluating candidates simpler through clear, skills-based assessments. But she knew the hiring process could still be easier and faster. At TestGorilla, we saw this, too. While our vast library of skills tests helped thousands of businesses make confident hiring choices, we realized that skills test-based evaluation alone wasn't enough.

Hiring managers shouldn’t have to moonlight as IO psychologists. But that’s what often ends up happening when building assessments from scratch. You start with a role in mind. Then what? You try to guess which skills matter, dig through a test library, and hope you land on the right combination. It’s inconsistent. It’s time-consuming. And no two hiring managers build the same assessment for the same role. That’s why we’re changing how assessments begin at TestGorilla.

As you may or may not know, TestGorilla is a fully remote company. We work online, and we're spread across the globe. And until now, our brand's presence has mostly remained online, too. We want that to change. We're taking every opportunity we can to push our brand out into the physical world, and engage with our audience IRL. We took our first stab at this for HR Tech Europe, and boy was it fun. We sent our team to Amsterdam with a big pink booth, a bin for chucking CVs in, some very pink jump
