A hands-on challenge in structuring and optimizing algorithms.
Ideal for: Software developers, software engineers, programmers, and anyone else who needs to understand functions and algorithmic reasoning..
This simulation uses a short, conversational interview to assess how candidates reason about the behavior of a simple helper function without requiring them to write or run real code. Instead of working in a code editor, candidates are given a clear description of a small helper-style function using pseudocode. They are then asked to explain what the function is meant to do and reason through how they would handle potential issues and/or improvements.
This simulation focuses on how candidates think: how they interpret a specification, reconstruct the intent of the function, and connect inputs, outputs, and rules into a coherent mental model. During the interview, candidates will engage in a dialog to demonstrate a holistic understanding of algorithmic reasoning.
This algorithmic reasoning simulation explores how candidates approach debugging and function changes safely. Because the exercise is based on a function described with pseudocode rather than a specific programming language, it is suitable for a wide range of software development backgrounds. Results will give you insight into how candidates reason about algorithmic behavior, communicate their thinking out loud, and balance correctness, predictability, and safety when working with existing logic.
TestGorilla’s tests are created by subject matter experts. We assess potential subject-matter experts based on their knowledge, ability, and reputation. Before being published, each test is peer-reviewed by another expert, then calibrated using hundreds of test takers with relevant experience in the subject.
Our feedback mechanisms and unique algorithms allow our subject-matter experts to constantly improve their tests.
