Triplybyte is a job-search platform (or “hiring marketplace,” as it calls itself) designed for software engineers and data scientists to help them find great positions in leading companies.

It’s similar to the employment site Indeed but is meant specifically for engineers and data scientists.

The platform heavily screens applicants, so only the best make it into its candidate pool. 

As an expansion to its job-search platform, it enables other companies to use its technical skills screening feature, which is called Triplebyte Screen.

A big advantage of Triplebyte Screen is that it’s free to use. However, Triplebyte has a few issues, which we’ll describe below.

1. Not a fully fledged skills-testing platform

Triplebyte is, first and foremost, a job-search platform, not a skills-testing platform. 

Its revenue model is based on attracting elite software engineers and data scientists into its pool of candidates. Employers can then offer these candidates roles. 

Triplebyte charges a percentage of the engineer’s first-year base salary as its fee.

In that sense, it functions like a recruitment firm. Reports suggest Triplebyte charges 25% of the new employee’s base salary. However, this is unconfirmed since the platform does not publicly confirm its fee structure. 

Triplebyte’s business model is not based on skills testing for third-party companies. As such, the Triplebyte Screen platform lacks many of the basic functionalities you’d expect from other platforms. 

For example, it has no video interviewing support or applicant tracking system (although it does offer ATS integration).

And, crucially, there’s almost no customer support.
