About the French Proficiency test (C1)

The French Language Proficiency test evaluates a candidate’s ability to communicate at the C1 level of the CEFR framework. The test assesses applicants’ vocabulary, sentence composition, reading comprehension, and listening comprehension.

Employees who are proficient in French support your company’s internal and external communications by clearly and effectively discussing ideas, plans, and goals with customers and colleagues. They can write well-structured reports, presentations, and other materials to help promote the company’s brand and ideas to others in French-speaking countries like France and Canada.

Although the B2 level indicates effective communication in most work and higher education situations, the French C1 language level ensures employees can express themselves clearly, handle demanding language tasks, and understand implicit meanings.

This C1 Level French exam measures how well a person can:

  • Speak fluently and spontaneously

  • Understand demanding and more complex texts

  • Recognize implicit meaning in written and verbal communications

  • Use the language flexibly and effectively for professional purposes

  • Create detailed texts on complex subjects

  • Show a broad and nuanced vocabulary suitable for business contexts

  • Develop coherent arguments and present them persuasively

  • Understand cultural references and idiomatic expressions

French learners can use the C1 French test for employment sample questions to assess their level of French proficiency with multiple-choice questions.

Our test is based around the requirements of the Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) and the Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF) issued by the French Ministry of Education to certify French language skills.

Why are French C1 skills important to employers?

French C1 skills are essential to employers because they enable clear and effective communication with native French speakers. Employees proficient in French have the necessary French language skills to handle complex tasks, write detailed reports, and contribute to international projects.

Our C1 Level test for employment helps you test French fluency and find candidates without French citizenship, a Test d'évaluation de français (TEF), or a French university degree who can operate efficiently and fluently in a global market.

Using the French C1 test online is important for hiring remote proficient French speakers. It makes identifying top talent easy regardless of location, contributing to better employee productivity and collaboration.

For example, Click&Boat, an online boat rental platform, used our language skills tests to hire customer support agents. After implementing our talent assessments, the employees hired this way showed 30% higher productivity than the rest of the team.

What job roles can you hire with our French Proficiency skills test?

For companies with international clientele, specialized positions often require employees with advanced C1 level French skills. These roles demand a high language proficiency level to ensure effective communication, project coordination, and content creation.

You can use our pre-employment French test (C1) to hire:

  • Editors: Ensure high-quality and error-free content tailored to French-speaking audiences

  • Writers: Create engaging and accurate written content like a French email marketing sequence, a French course, or quizzes for French-speaking readers.

  • Content creators: Develop engaging multimedia content for French-speaking viewers (i.e., product videos and how-to guides)

  • Customer success managers: Facilitate clear and effective communication in French

  • Sales representatives: Confidently engage with French-speaking clients and close international deals across Europe, North America, and Africa

  • Project managers: Coordinate easily with teams and stakeholders based in Francophone countries

  • Business analysts: Analyze and present data effectively to international stakeholders

  • Translators/interpreters: Provide accurate and fluent translation services for French documents and conversations

Create a multi-measure assessment: 4 tests to pair with the French Proficiency test (C1)

Improve your hiring strategy by pairing the C1 Level French test for employment with four other tests. This multi-measure approach helps create a well-rounded assessment of your candidates’ skills and traits.

We suggest combining these four tests with the French test (C1):

  • Culture Add test: Determine if applicants can contribute to your company’s culture and future team. Combine it with the C1 French test online to hire individuals who can thrive and enhance your work environment.

  • DISC Personality test: Assess personality traits to understand how job seekers interact with others and can fit into your team dynamics. Pair it with the French C1 test online to ensure effective communication and collaboration within your team.

  • Time Management test: Measure candidates’ ability to manage their time and prioritize tasks. Use it with the French Proficiency test to identify individuals who can handle workloads effectively, especially in high-pressure environments.

  • Business Judgment test: Gauge how well an applicant can make the right trade-offs and decisions in a business context. When paired with a language test (be it French, English, Chinese, or Spanish), this test helps you hire multilingual professionals with the competencies and mindset for growing your organization.

Note: We haven’t included any role-specific skills tests here because they depend on the position you’re hiring for. However, we highly recommend you add at least one in your five-test assessment to ensure your candidates possess the right skills for the job.
