Position Title: Remote Estimator – Federal Construction Location: Remote (Preferred regions: Philippines, South Africa, India, Egypt, Jordan)
We are a minority- and woman-owned general contractor based in the U.S., with a strong focus on federal construction projects for agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, GSA, and USDA. Our portfolio includes building renovations, roofing, civil infrastructure, and site utility work. Operating as a fully remote team, we are rapidly expanding and committed to delivering high-quality results across diverse scopes.
We are seeking an experienced Estimator with deep knowledge of federal project requirements who can work collaboratively across departments, including our estimating, project management, and field operations teams. The ideal candidate will be confident in engaging subcontractors directly—particularly in cases where additional outreach support is needed to ensure comprehensive and competitive bids.
You will manage our bidding pipeline proactively—focusing on thorough and precise estimating, coordinating subcontractor quotes, and providing detailed bid analyses. Your proactive outreach to subcontractors will complement our existing team's analytical and technical strengths, helping us submit timely and accurate proposals for federal projects.
Lead the response to federal RFPs via BuildingConnected, SAM.gov, and direct solicitations.
Coordinate directly with U.S.-based subcontractors across various trades, proactively communicating to obtain timely, accurate, and competitive pricing.
Provide structured bid packages, including detailed pricing breakdowns, subcontractor quotes, bid narratives, and accurate schedules.
Complete quantity takeoffs, clearly outlining project risks and scope gaps.
Collaborate closely with Brian (external SME) and Ryeven (internal estimator) on bid reviews, risk assessments, and quality control checks.
Draft project schedules, QC/Safety Plans, and compliance documents as required by federal standards (e.g., EM 385-1-1).
Clearly document estimating processes and outcomes in HubSpot or designated project management tools to maintain accurate project tracking and visibility.
Provide estimating support during project startup, clearly transitioning awarded projects to the operations team for execution.
Minimum of 4 years estimating and bidding U.S. federal construction projects (Army Corps, GSA, VA, etc.)
Direct experience with proactive subcontractor outreach and clear subcontractor communications for timely and accurate quotes.
Proficient in BuildingConnected, MS Excel, and PDF markup software (Bluebeam or equivalent).
Solid experience in scope review, bid leveling, quantity takeoffs, and cost validation.
Strong written and verbal English skills—comfortable leading subcontractor calls, writing RFIs, and preparing technical proposals clearly.
Familiarity with federal contracting compliance: Davis-Bacon wages, FAR clauses, certified payroll processes.
Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision, taking clear ownership of estimating responsibilities.
Background in civil engineering or construction management.
Experience preparing cost estimates using RSMeans or similar.
Familiarity with construction project management tools (Procore, PlanGrid, or Monday.com).
Previous remote estimating or project management experience for a U.S. General Contractor.
PMP certification or OSHA 30-hour training.
Complement to Current Team: Our estimating team includes both internal and external professionals with strong analytical capabilities. However, there remains a need for consistent, hands-on subcontractor engagement. This Estimator role is designed to fill that gap by leading outreach efforts, gathering competitive pricing, and ensuring thorough trade coverage for each bid.
Communication Expectations: The role requires daily, proactive communication with subcontractors via phone, email, and platforms like BuildingConnected. All outreach must be clearly documented, including contact outcomes and pricing details.
Structured Workflow: You will collaborate closely with various Project Managers and Superintendents assigned to each federal project. Estimating checkpoints and coordination milestones will be established to ensure seamless transitions from preconstruction to execution and to support clear communication across departments.
A critical role with direct impact and clear autonomy.
Defined KPIs with performance bonuses tied directly to successful bids and awarded projects.
Growth opportunities within a supportive, collaborative, and honest team environment focused on federal construction.
